Burnaby, BC, September 17, 2015 – Gateway Casinos & Entertainment (Gateway) is the proud recipient of a TELUS Business Community Champion Award. This award recognizes businesses that make a substantial impact in the community and demonstrate leadership in creating a culture of giving within their organizations.
“Gateway Casinos showcased your organization’s commitment to improving the lives of Canadians and our communities”, said Josh Blair, Executive vice president, TELUS Health and TELUS International and President, TELUS Business Solutions West.
Nominated by their TELUS account manager, Larry Lee, Gateway Casinos & Entertainment is pleased to be recognized as a business that embraces TELUS’ philosophy to “Give Where We Live”. It is this philosophy that lead Gateway’s initiative to help L’Arche Foundation of Greater Vancouver improve its headquarters. Lead by Jeff Lee, Energy Manager for Gateway Casinos, 13 businesses got together to provide lighting upgrades, install sensor controls, replace the hot water tank, and refresh the landscape at Shiloah in Burnaby. These efficiency upgrades are expected to save the foundation approximately $1,200 per year, according to Lee.
As a recipient of this award, Gateway was asked to select a charity to receive a complimentary, one-year subscription to a new TELUS service of their choice. In honour of our partnership with them, L’Arche was selected as the recipient of this donation. “This component of the award is really the most important part, what better way to celebrate than to again pay it forward”, said Tanya Gabara, Director of Public Relations for Gateway Casinos. “The work that the staff at L’arche do is absolutely incredible and any savings they can capture allows them to do that much more”.
L’Arche Foundation is a Burnaby foundation that runs residential homes and programs for people with developmental disabilities. To learn more about L’Arche, please visit http://www.larchevancouver.org/
