Gateway Casinos & Entertainment Announces the Addition of Signature MATCH Eatery & Public House to Chances Campbell River

Renovation Will Bring New Jobs and a $3.5 Million Investment for Campbell River’s Economy

September 8, 2017 – Campbell River, BC – Gateway Casinos & Entertainment (Gateway) announced today that it will be undertaking a spectacular renovation at Chances Campbell River (Chances) that will include a completely renovated gaming floor and the introduction of their signature restaurant MATCH Eatery & Public House (MATCH). The project will add new jobs and a $3.5 Million investment to the local economy.

“We are thrilled to share details of this project with our staff and community,” said Tony Santo, CEO of Gateway Casinos & Entertainment. “This will be our first redevelopment project for Vancouver Island. This exciting renovation will elevate the customer experience and change the way people view casino dining.”

In 2013, Gateway undertook an ambitious growth and development strategy that has seen the company increase its workforce by 55%, invest more than $315 Million into communities across the country, and become Canada’s largest gaming and entertainment company.  Central to Gateway’s success has been the development of signature casino and restaurant brands that have dramatically improved the gaming customer’s experience while generating important new customer segments.

Gateway’s signature MATCH brand – with 6 locations in BC, 1 in Edmonton’s famed Ice District and opening soon in West Edmonton Mall and Point Edward, ON – is a family-friendly restaurant offering a casual and upbeat atmosphere that is perfect for any occasion. It a great place to enjoy “the big game”, a family celebration or a social evening with friends. Here you can enjoy creative comfort food, cold libations and exciting entertainment on a 2-level patio that boasts fabulous views of Quadra Island and Discovery Passage.

“We are very pleased with the confidence of Gateway Casinos to choose Campbell River as the next community to make a significant investment in,” says Mayor Andy Adams, “the addition of the MATCH Eatery & Public House with a fantastic patio area will bring added vibrancy and options for downtown, and the additional jobs and gaming will provide added economic stimulus to Campbell River and our ‘Downtown Refresh’ initiatives.”

The construction of the new MATCH is set to begin later this fall and open in Spring 2018. Gateway will hold career fairs in early 2018 to help fill the new positions at MATCH. Please visit for more information. The property will remain open for business, with minimal disruption to employees and customers, during the renovations.

“We are excited to add new amenities to the site and refresh the entire property for our customers and employees. This will be the first MATCH Eatery & Public House location on Vancouver Island,” Kent Hockley, Regional Manager, Gateway Casinos.

Last week, Gateway unveiled plans to expand and renovate its flagship property Grand Villa Casino Burnaby. The spectacular $15 Million renovation will include the introduction of two new dining options and bring up to 75 new jobs; also announced this week was the addition of MATCH Eatery & Public House to Chances Courtenay that will bring up to 25 new jobs and a $3.1 Million boost to the local economy.  Starting October 1st, Gateway will celebrate 25 years in the business of entertainment. More details on all planned events happening across all 26 Gateway locations to follow in the weeks to come.
