Gateway Casinos & Entertainment Announces the Addition of Signature MATCH Eatery & Public House to Chances Courtenay

Renovation Will Bring New Jobs and a $3.1 Million Investment for Courtenay’s Economy

September 8, 2017 – Courtenay, BC – Gateway Casinos & Entertainment (Gateway) announced today that it will be undertaking a spectacular renovation at Chances Courtenay (Chances) that will included a completely renovated gaming floor and the introduction of their signature restaurant MATCH Eatery & Public House (MATCH). The project will bring new jobs and a $3.1 Million investment to the local economy.

“We are very excited to announce this redevelopment project,” said Tony Santo, CEO of Gateway Casinos & Entertainment. “Our goal is to create a destination dining, entertainment and gaming experience. This exciting renovation will change the way people view casino dining and further enhance the customer experience.”

In 2013, Gateway undertook an ambitious growth and development strategy that has seen the company increase its workforce by 55%, invest more than $315 Million into communities across the country, and become Canada’s largest gaming and entertainment company.  Central to Gateway’s success has been the development of signature casino and restaurant brands that have dramatically improved the gaming customer experience while generating important new customer segments.

Gateway’s signature MATCH Eatery & Public House brand, with 6 locations in BC and in Edmonton’s famed Ice District, MATCH is also planned for West Edmonton Mall and Point Edward in Ontario. As a family-friendly restaurant offering a casual and upbeat atmosphere, it is a perfect gathering for any occasion. It is a great place to enjoy “the big game”, a family celebration or a social evening with friends.

“The significant investment happening at Chances Courtenay is great news for the local economy and workforce in the Comox Valley.” said Mayor Larry Jangula. “In addition, each year the City of Courtenay receives hundreds of thousands of dollars through gaming funds raised at Chances Courtenay, and these funds are used to support community initiatives that benefit the entire Comox Valley, such as public safety, arts and culture, and infrastructure. This redevelopment project will benefit our community in many ways, and we congratulate Chances Courtenay on this major announcement.”

The construction of the new MATCH is set to begin later this fall and open in Spring 2018. The property will remain open for business, with minimal disruption to employees and customers, during the renovations.

Gateway will hold career fairs in early 2018 to help fill the new positions at MATCH. Please visit for more information.

“We are excited to bring the MATCH Eatery & Public House brand to Courtenay,” Kent Hockley, Regional Manager, Gateway Casinos. “We are committed to providing our customers with an outstanding experience as well as continuing to create jobs and prosperity for our community.”

Last week, Gateway unveiled plans to expand and renovate its flagship property Grand Villa Casino Burnaby. The spectacular $15 Million renovation will include the introduction of two new dining options and bring up to 75 new jobs; also announced this week was the addition of MATCH Eatery & Public House to Chances Campbell River that will bring new jobs and a $3.5 Million boost to the local economy. Starting October 1st Gateway will celebrate 25 years in the business of entertainment. More details on all planned events happening across all 26 Gateway locations to follow in the weeks to come.
