Gateway Casinos & Entertainment Limited Plans to Build a Premier Entertainment and Gaming Property

Up to 150 new jobs and $25 million construction investment for Penticton’s economy 

November 23, 2015 – Penticton, BC – Gateway Casinos & Entertainment (Gateway) announced today that it has entered into a lease agreement with the City of Penticton for land at the South Okanagan Events Centre complex. Gateway intends to build a premier casino and entertainment property at this location.

The proposed Cascades Casino Penticton, will feature a spectacular gaming floor with exciting entertainment and multiple dining and culinary options to suit any taste; including their signature restaurant – Match Eatery and Public House, which will feature their first rooftop patio.

The project will bring up to 150 new jobs and a $25 million investment to the Penticton economy. In addition to this long-term investment, the project will result in 200 person-years of construction employment.

With over 45,000 square feet of entertainment space, Cascades Casino Penticton will be an exceptional addition to SOEC. Construction could begin in 2016 with a grand opening in spring  2017.

Today’s announcement at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre was attended by a number of local leaders and politicians including, Mayor Andrew Jakubeit (City of Penticton), members of council, chamber president and Dean Clarke (Regional Vice President, Spectra Venue Management).

“As the organization responsible for conducting and managing gambling in B.C., it’s our role to ensure the City seeks community input and provides its approval before we allow a project to proceed,” said Brad Desmarais, Vice-President of Casino & Community Gaming for BCLC. “We will closely follow the next important phase of the process and support Gateway’s initiative on this  project to date.”

Gateway Casinos and the City of Penticton will be hosting a series of open houses on November 30 from 5 – 9pm at the Penticton Seniors’ Drop-In Centre Society; December 1 from 9 – 11am and 6 – 8pm at the Sandman Hotel; and December 8 from 1 -3pm and 5 – 7pm at the Ramada to allow the public to learn more about the project.
