$36 million investment will create up to 200 new jobs
July 5, 2018, Chatham, ON – Gateway Casinos & Entertainment Limited (“Gateway”) CEO, Tony Santo held a ground-breaking ceremony today with Chatham-Kent Mayor Randy Hope to signal the start of construction of the new $36 million Cascades casino at 615 Richmond Street in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent. The new casino will house over 300 slots and 12 table games, and feature Gateway’s signature restaurant brands MATCH Eatery & Public House and The Buffet. It is planned that the new casino will open mid-2019.
“It was just three months ago that the Mayor and I stood next door at the Bradley Centre to announce we had committed to build a new casino here in Chatham-Kent. Today we break ground and start the construction of what we know will be a great state of the art entertainment attraction for your community and an important contributor to the local economy,” said Tony Santo, Gateway CEO. “Our investment of $36 million here in Chatham-Kent will not only create up to 200 new jobs at the casino, but millions in economic spin-offs through the construction that starts today.”
Central to Gateway’s success has been the development of proprietary casino and restaurant brands. The Cascades brand is built around the design inspiration of “Play”. The new property will be a local entertainment destination that will truly redefine entertainment with an array of dining and entertainment options to suit any taste. Gateway has successful Cascades properties in Langley, Kamloops and Penticton, BC.
“We’re excited about Gateway’s decision to invest further in Chatham-Kent and we’re proud to be the first new build by the company in Ontario. This is a first-class organization and I think the people of our community are going to be very pleased with the new casino and restaurant,” said Chatham-Kent Mayor Randy Hope.
Gateway Casino’s Dresden General Manager, Damien de Roux also attended the ground-breaking and remarked, “My first job as a General Manager with OLG started in Dresden. Now 11 years later I am here to witness the start of a whole new gaming and entertainment experience for Chatham-Kent. It’s tremendously exciting to think about both the potential employment opportunities this presents to the people of Chatham, but also the enjoyment they are going to experience at our restaurants and the greatly expanded gaming floor.”
Gateway Casino’s signature brand MATCH Eatery & Public House combines the welcoming and social traditions of a neighbourhood pub with the high energy and excitement of a sports bar. Whether it’s the big game, a family celebration or just a social gathering with friends, MATCH Eatery & Public House provides a casual, upbeat atmosphere ideal for any occasion. The Buffett equally complements the MATCH experience with an emphasis on exceptional value and an ever-changing menu highlighting cuisine from around the world with something for every age and appetite.
The new Cascades entertainment and casino complex in Chatham-Kent is the first “new construction” build for Gateway in Ontario. The newly rebranded Starlight Casino Point Edward is nearing completion of a $26 million renovation and held the grand opening of the first MATCH Eatery & Public House in the province this afternoon. Gateway is also investing in extensive renovations of their Hanover site and plans to build new casinos in London, Sudbury, North Bay and Kenora.
A commitment to responsible gambling is integral to how Gateway operates in Ontario including OLG’s PlaySmart program. All Gateway properties in BC and Ontario hold RG Check accreditation. Together with OLG and other government partners, Gateway will continue to implement responsible gambling initiatives at all properties across Canada.
