Gateway strongly believes in offering not just our resources, but also our time, our know-how and our properties to assist in local efforts to make a positive difference.

Gateway Casinos & Entertainment has the privilege of operating in cities and towns across Canada. As a company, we gain so much from each of these communities and believe it is our responsibility to give back, pitch in and provide support to those causes that matter most to our neighbours. Gateway strongly believes in offering not just our resources, but also our time, our know-how and our properties in supporting local efforts in the communities where we operate.

Our team members are proud to live in the neighbourhoods and towns in which they work and are eager to give back in their own way. We support and encourage them to be actively involved in projects, causes and initiatives that aim to build stronger, healthier and more vibrant communities.

GatewayGIVES supports a wide variety of local initiatives. Last year, Gateway and its properties were pleased to donate over $600,000 in monetary and in-kind support as well as countless hours of volunteer time. We support a wide range of initiatives, including the Scotiabank MS Walk, Dining Out For Life, the Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Langley Good Times Cruise and the Special Olympics BC.

"Every few months the Lake City Casino incredible staff collect all of the dropped coins, change left over and chips forgotten. To date they have raised and donated $28,260 since 2009 to the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation for the Penticton Regional Hospital. Their generous support is for the best medical equipment available for the residents of the South Okanagan. On behalf of the medical staff and board of directors, thank you everyone involved. Lake City Casino staff are one of our community heroes."

"The Canadian Festival of Chili and BBQ has been hosted by Cascades Casino for the past five years. Putting on two full days of cooking competitions and the largest Chili and BBQ Championships in Canada and the Northwest is no small task! Cascades and Gateway Casinos has always been a huge proponent and problem solver in delivering the best possible event to BC.

As a huge community supporter Gateway Casinos has enabled us to raise over $40,000 in support of The BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund which directly helps burn victims where we live. We look forward to a very long and rewarding relationship with Cascades and Gateway Casinos, a strong community partner."

"The Burn fund is very excited about working with Gateway Casino. They have been a long-time supporter of our fundraising efforts. It is great to see the annual Canadian BBQ & Chili Festival get bigger each year in Langley, and now this summer, our first 'Night of inspiration and comedy' gala. I could not have attempted this without Gateway's support and guidance.

I look forward to continuing our partnership and supporting burn survivors in BC."

"BC Hydro has had the pleasure of being a partner with Gateway Casinos since 2003. Since then, Gateway has focused on reducing the overall carbon footprint and minimizing the electrical consumption across their facilities. The organization has managed to achieve over 3.08GWh in cumulative savings which equates to enough energy for 285 homes annually. Savings have been achieved through but limited to lighting, mechanical, controls, energy efficient kitchen equipment and improved business practices. Recently Gateway Casinos was recognized as BC Hydro’s top Power Smart Partner within the Hospitality sector along and received a profile within the Vancouver Sun. The dedication to energy efficiency and making their organization sustainable is truly commendable.

Along with reducing their own electrical consumption, Gateway is finding a way to give back to the communities that they reside in. The organization took a unique approach in donating back to the City of Burnaby this year. Normally a monetary donation is provided to a local charity, this year the energy management team found the charitable organization L’Arche through the Burnaby Board of Trade and implemented a full energy efficiency overhaul to their facility. Leveraging the great connection with contractors, distributors and consultants, Gateway facilitated the new lighting, controls and boiler system as a way to continually give back to the society. With reduced utility costs L’Arche can now spend funding on other items to help their members. Additionally L’Arche was made the sole recipient of any energy efficient incentives available as an added benefit."

BC Hydro is looking forward to profiling this story in an upcoming newsletter in recognition of the great work Gateway is doing.”

"Lake City Casino Penticton has generously and directly funded the work and programs of at least ten charity and community non-profits, providing more than $56,000 over the past five years. One recipient, the South Okanagan-Similkameen Medical Foundation, which supports health services in our region, has received almost $29,000 since 2010 from Lake City Casino.
Other charities have been the recipient of funds through the casino’s regular charity slot tournaments. These include the South Okanagan-Similkameen SPCA, the South Okanagan Victim Assistance Society and the South Okanagan Women in Need Society.
Funding has also been provided to Movember Canada, the Okanagan-Similkameen Neurological Society, Crime Stoppers of the South Okanagan-Similkameen, United Way of the Central & South Okanagan-Similkameen and Peach City Community Radio Society.
As an active volunteer with the latter organization, I am impressed with these generous direct".

"Starlight Casino New Westminster is a shining example of a business that is consistently giving back to its community.
Starlight Casino makes numerous contributions in our community benefitting a broad spectrum of not for profits organizations who simply would not be as successful without their support.
As business people we are conditioned to consider all of our actions and consider how our actions fit into our overall goals of making sure our business is a success. But in New Westminster, Starlight Casino not only is committed to sustainable excellence it is committed to giving back. It appears in some circumstances that profit is not driving the decisions but doing right is.
For instance, for years Starlight Casino’s Chef Kwok has been preparing all of the meals for the Senior Services Society program “Meals on Wheels”. The cost of the food is covered by the small fee charged to the Society but all of the labour is donated.
Starlight Casino’s culture is commitment to community and New Westminster is the benefactor of this commitment."

"The Penticton Lake City Casino has supported the South Okanagan Victim Assistance Society (SOVAS) over the last few years. The casino's support is crucial in helping SOVAS support individuals in our community in their 'Journey Beyond Abuse'. SOVAS relies on community donation to supplement our annual budget. SOVAS supports men, women and children in our community who have experienced violence in relationship and sexualized violence. Without the financial support from the Penticton Lake City Casino, SOVAS would not be able to support as many people as we do."

Amberlee Erdmann, SOVAS Resource Development Coordinator

"It's been our great pleasure to have Gateway Casinos as a proud Diamond sponsor of the Ride For Dad. If it hadn't been for Mark Walker, in the beginning, introducing the Casino to us and Suzanne Chorney setting up the very valuable donations, we wouldn't be making such an impact for Prostate Cancer Research & Awareness in our local community.

Gateway has been an inspiration to us with their thousands of dollars for the cause. With the help of Gateway Casinos, we have made a huge contribution to our community.

Once again, on behalf of myself and everyone with the RFD executive, it's been a pleasure working with everyone involved there and see you all next year in making the event larger than ever."

"The Burnaby Board of Trade is pleased to have Gateway Casinos & Entertainment and their local property, the Grand Villa Casino, as long-time, active members of our organization. The Burnaby Board of Trade has happily partnered with Gateway Casinos on several of our initiatives including our annual charity golf tournament, ACCESS (our student career development program) and the Pledge for a Sustainable Community (our signature environmental program). Gateway is a strong part of our local business community and through both their commitment to supporting local charitable organizations and their dedication to improving the sustainability of their operations is an example for others of how to be an engaged and responsible corporate citizen."

"The New Westminster Sr Salmonbellies want to thank the great people from Gateway Casinos for their ongoing sponsorship support over the past 4- 5 years. We are a Community owned team with no private ownership, so we rely on Corporate Sponsorship like the good people at Gateway to keep our organization afloat. Time and time again Gateway has assisted us in sponsoring our club, and most recently being the main sponsor of the Salmonbellies Alumni Golf Tournament which raises funds for scholarships in our Community."

"During the Christmas season each year, the Langley Christmas Bureau partners with the Gateway Casino staff to ensure that our communities less fortunate citizens have presents under their tree Christmas morning and dinner on their table Christmas day.
The Langley Christmas Bureau services the Langley families with children to ensure that “Everyone Shall Have a Christmas.’ The Gateway Casinos and their staff go ‘the extra mile’ to ensure that our goal is met.
Their assistance with organizing our annual Mayor’s Wives Tea held in the Coast Hotel ballroom has been instrumental in raising over $25,000.00 for the past two years. Each year the Gateway staff not only volunteer time and smiles as Elves in our Toy Depot, they also provide delicious lunches for over 300 volunteers that are distributing the toys to our clients.
The Langley Christmas Bureau is a totally volunteer organization and could not exist without the support of excellent community partners such as the Gateway Casino. With the staff of the two organizations working together and sharing our resource networks throughout the Christmas season, we endeavour to make sure no one falls through the cracks and that everyone has a Christmas."

"Gateway Casinos and their team members have actively supported Heart and Stroke Foundation by way of Big Bike participation and corporate donations. This year alone, they have raised almost $36,000 in Burnaby, New Westminster, Kamloops, Kelowna, Penticton and Vernon. Together we are building healthier, stronger and more vibrant communities across BC and we couldn’t do this without community partners like Gateway Casinos. Thank you for helping us create more survivors."

Joanne King, Director of Community Engagement

"It is because of businesses like Lake City Casino’s that the Heart and Stroke Foundation (HSF) is able to have the impact that we do. Without the incredible support of Lake City Casino’s, and others who are committed to giving back to the communities in which they do live and business, HSF would not be able fund life - saving research. Right now, there are more than 122,000 thousand Canadians who were able to go home within the past year after suffering from heart disease or stroke; they thank you for your generous donations, as do we!"

"Tourism Langley has had a very positive relationship in all of our endeavors with Gateway Casinos, and in particular the Cascades Casino Resort. This relationship exists on multiple levels including partners in our marketing of Langley, contribution to our operational budget via the MRDT (Municipal and Regional District Tax) and playing a role in our steering through regular participation as a member of our Board of Directors.

Within the above parameters, Gateway Casino’s has always maintained a professional and supportive role in all of our internal communication as well as any external campaigns in which their support was required. Gateway Casinos are a major contributor to the Tourism accommodation and recreation product in Langley and their support and willingness to be an engaged partner with Tourism Langley has contributed to the positive goals achieved by our organization.

We look forward to continuing to partner with Gateway Casinos and work with their professional and supportive teams whom have been an asset to our organization."
