Chances Abbotsford continues its support of the Archway Food Bank of Abbotsford with their annual Canada Day pancake breakfast and BBQ, with all proceed going directly to the organization.

Starting in the morning, guests were served a delicious pancake breakfast for free with the donation of a non-perishable item. In the afternoon, the festivities shifted to a fantastic BBQ served by the talented culinary team from the Red 21 Gaming Tap + Grill. For a donation of $6 guests received their choice of a hot dog, burger, chips and a drink with 100% of sales to the food bank.  In total, this event was the most successful of any year, raising $1,785 and bringing in more than 1,000 pounds of food for the Archway Food Bank of Abbotsford.

Over the past 8 years, this event has raised thousands of dollars and delivered more than 3,000 pounds of non-perishable goods to the food bank.

Cascades Casin

Since 2016, Cascades Casino Resort has welcomes the Cops for Cancer – Tour de Valley riders.  These dedicated men and women trek 800 km northwards from Langley to Boston Bar, then south to Tsawwassen and White Rock to raise vital funds for life-saving research and caring support programs like Camp Goodtimes to reduce its impact.

We are proud to support their efforts with a $3,000 donation each year.

On Your Marks, Get Set, GO!

This year GatewayGIVES raced in their first-ever soap box derby, presented by the Rotary Club of Tsawwassen.  The derby serves as an annual major fundraiser for the Rotary, helping fund community projects in South Delta.

Each sponsor purchases a standardized cart mechanical package provided by the Rotary.  The package includes the mechanical aspects of each cart, such as the wheels, braking and steering mechanisms. Each sponsor receives a written set of standards, outlining cart dimensions and the total weight limit of the cart driver. Participating teams then must design, built and decorate their derby.

The GatewayGIVES cart was driven by the son of our VP, Operations, Rowland England and was designed and built by the Gabara and England families.  While we didn’t win, Jaiden did a great job and finished mid pack of the 36 carts.

Redesigns are already in the works by our cart design team and next year we will win!! Apparently, it’s all about the wheel bearings…
