Gateway Casinos & Entertainment Celebrates 25th Anniversary with 25 Days of Giving
October 17, 2017 – Chatham, ON – Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation received a cheque today for $5,000 from Gateway Casinos Dresden as part of GatewayGIVES’ 25 Days of Giving in celebration of Gateway’s 25th anniversary in the business of entertainment.
GatewayGIVES is the corporate giving and community engagement program of Gateway Casinos. The 25 Days of Giving campaign will contribute $5,000 to a worthy local charity selected by employees, in each of the communities where Gateway operates. At the end of the October campaign, GatewayGIVES will have donated a total of $125,000 to the deserving, employee-selected, charities across Canada.
Gateway has dedicated the month of October to celebrate its silver anniversary with customers, communities and employees. As part of the festivities they launched the 25 Days of Giving campaign through GatewayGIVES and are letting their employees select the charity of their choice in the communities where they live and work. Chatham-Kent Hospice was selected in recognition of its ongoing work as a Resource Center for terminally ill people as they face illness and support programs for people who are caring for, or grieving the loss of a loved one.
John Lawrence Chair, Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation, was surprised and happy with the announcement.
“We are very grateful to Gateway Casinos Dresden for this generous gift. What a thoughtful way to celebrate their 25th anniversary by supporting families in the community who are dealing with end of life. Their community-minded support will help us ensure residential hospice services continue to be available when people need it the most”.
Damien deRoux, General Manager of Gateway Casinos Dresden said the selection process proved an exciting motivating experience for staff. “Our GatewayGIVES program is an important part of how we contribute to our local community. I was extremely pleased when I learned that our employees had chosen Chatham-Kent Hospice to receive this donation as part of our 25th anniversary celebration. Hospice employees and volunteers provide services and support that makes such a difference, and Gateway Casinos Dresden is happy to provide this gift to an organization that does so much good in our community.”
What other Gateway employees had say about the Chatham-Kent Hospice
“On May 5th 2017 my brother Brent was admitted to Chatham-Kent Hospice during his one and a half year courageous battle with bladder cancer. What a Godsend for Brent and the rest of the family, my mother and five brothers and a sister. The staff were definitely picked from the most compassionate, caring and professional people I have ever met. The care my brother received from the comforting and loving atmosphere, to the medical professionalism from the doctors and all of the nurses was outstanding. Sadly Brent passed away September 15, 2017 and we are so thankful it happened at the Chatham-Kent Hospice. Our family will be forever grateful for the dignity and compassion that was shown by all.” Karen Preston – Food and Beverage – Gateway Casino Dresden
“I chose Chatham-Kent Hospice because they provide care for loved ones dying from a terminal illness in a home-like setting instead of a hospital-like setting. A place where even patients suffering from chronic illnesses can still maintain some quality of life during the ending phase of life,” said Margaret Horne – Cashier – Gateway Casino Dresden
