October 12, 2017 – Thunder Bay, ON – Faye Peterson House today received a cheque for $5,000 from Gateway Casinos Thunder Bay as part of GatewayGIVES’ 25 Days of Giving in celebration of Gateway’s 25th anniversary in the business of entertainment.

GatewayGIVES is the corporate giving and community engagement program of Gateway Casinos. The 25 Days of Giving campaign will contribute $5,000 to a worthy local charity selected by employees, in each of the communities where Gateway operates. At the end of the October campaign, GatewayGIVES will have donated a total of $125,000 to the deserving, employee-selected, charities across Canada.

Gateway has dedicated the month of October to celebrate its silver anniversary with customers, communities and employees. As part of the festivities they launched the 25 Days of Giving campaign through GatewayGIVES and are letting their employees select the charity of their choice in the communities where they live and work. Faye Peterson House was selected in recognition of its ongoing work in assisting women and children who have become victims of domestic violence. Faye Peterson House provides safe shelter for women and children and a variety of other services that allow women to transition from situations of crisis in their lives.

Debbie Zweep, Executive Director, Faye Petersen Transition House, was surprised and happy with the announcement. “Thank you for the generosity of this donation! We are currently in the process of a capital fundraising campaign for our second stage housing unit for abused women and their children and these funds will be used to build this housing.”

Jordi Psikla, General Manager of Gateway Casinos Thunder Bay said it was an exciting process that engaged and motivated staff. “Being able to offer an opportunity for our employees to nominate a charitable organization that is important to them and serves our community, was a remarkable experience. This organization provides a valuable service within our city and is essential in providing a positive opportunity to those in need.”
