Over $78,000 Raised to Grant The Wishes Of Sick Kids Across Canada
For the second year in a row Gateway Casinos properties across Canada have participated in the Children’s Wish Heroes Challenge. The Heroes Challenge is a fun team-building fundraising event where teams raise funds to grant the wish of a child diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.
Through the amazing efforts of staff, management, and customers the four Gateway teams have surpassed last year’s total by more than $17,000. Collectively, we have raised $78,282.73! Making Gateway Casinos the top corporate fund raiser in Canada.
On September 27, our teams came together to participate in the Heroes Challenge events in Vancouver, Edmonton and Toronto. Each spent the day competing in activities with their Wish Child and their family. There were many fun and challenging activities including: The Gaunlet, Human Hungry, Hungry Hippo, Spidey Senses, Beanbag Catapult, Build a Raft that holds 2 people, food eating challenges, Hammer a nail in the least amount of swings, Bob Ross Painting Challenge, Curling and the Dance Off.
Awards are given out in several categories at the end of the event: Team BC and Team AB both won Top Fund Raiser for their respective province and Team Ontario won the Team Spirit Award for their “All-In” spirit. Teams began fundraising in April with the goal of raising $10,000 each by event day in order to grant their child’s wish. Again, all the teams came up with some great ways to raise funds.
Team Gateway Guardians(BC) led by Shannon Gnocato, Regional Manager – CGC Division, sold “wish packs” at their staff golf tournament; hosted a Gala night at Chances Campbell River that raised over $12,000 and included silent and live auction, balloon pops and Match signature food and drinks; various sites held bake sales, jeans days, and bottles drives – to name just a few.
Team The Grand Stars (AB) led by Dave Pavelich, Marketing Manager, raised their funds through a staff poker tournament; bottle drive; jeans Day every Friday; and a comedy night at Match.
Congratulations to all four Gateway teams. It is through your efforts that we have not only surpassed our fundraising goal but have taken top spot across the country. I am extremely proud of your commitment and ongoing support of this campaign. You are showing each of our communities what GatewayGIVES truly means.
Tony Santo, CEO
Team Gateway Casinos Ontario led by Rebecca Coveney, Customer Relations Supervisor, hosted events across all sites in Ontario such as a rummage sale of old building items from Dresden; jeans days; multiple silent auctions; and best of all, a friendly fundraising competition between Marc Repele and Darryl Lalonde where the winner will shave the others head! Darryl did not win
Finally, Team Casino Rama Cares, led by Tonia McGratton, Internal Communications Specialist, raised funds through a cupcake sale that raised $1,200; staff golf tournament; trivia night; various raffles; and the sale of lots of chocolates.
|Gateway Fundraising Totals:|

As you can see, our teams were very creative in their fundraising ideas and they really paid off. Team Alberta came in first overall for team donations at the Edmonton event – the next closest team was more than $10,000 behind their total. Congratulations to everyone that donated, participated and supported The 2019 Children’s Wish Foundation Heroes Challenge.
See You Next Year!!
