Month-Long Celebrations to Take Place across 26 Sites and Plans to Break the Record for Canada’s Largest Slot Tournament
September 29, 2017 – Burnaby, BC – Gateway Casinos & Entertainment (Gateway) announced today its celebration plans for its 25th anniversary in the business of entertainment.
Starting in 1992 with two casino operations in the Vancouver area, Gateway has grown exponentially over the years through new casino developments, redevelopments of existing properties and strategic acquisitions. Gateway operates 26 properties in British Columbia, Ontario and Alberta and is now Canada’s largest and most diversified gaming company.
In 2013, Gateway undertook an ambitious growth and development strategy that has seen the company increase its workforce by 55% and invest more than $315 Million into communities across the country. Central to Gateway’s success has been the development of signature casino and restaurant brands that have dramatically improved the gaming customer experience.
“Celebrating twenty-five years in business is an important milestone for Gateway. It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our 6,100 employees. I am very proud of our past, especially our growth and accomplishments, and am excited for the future,” said Tony Santo, Gateway’s Chief Executive Officer.
As part of the 25th anniversary, Gateway has announced a number of community investments and renovations including entering into a community consultation process for a proposed $70 Million local entertainment destination in Delta which will bring up to 700 new jobs. Other recent announcements include renovations at Chances Campbell River and Chances Courtenay where MATCH Eatery & Public House will come to both communities and a $15 Million renovation at Grand Villa Casino Burnaby that will bring up to 75 new jobs and see the introduction of Atlas Steak + Fish. In Ontario, construction has begun on the first Gateway redevelopment in Point Edward, which will be rebranded Starlight Casino featuring a MATCH and The Buffet.
Gateway will celebrate its silver anniversary with customers, communities and employees throughout the month of October. With kick-off parties that will feature live entertainment, hot seat draws, prizes and treats – the month of celebrations will include gift days, an enterprise-wide kiosk promotion, 90s themed VIP parties, and themed food and beverage offers. Gateway will round out the festivities by hosting Canada’s Largest Slot Tournament. The tournament is scheduled for October 22 at all sites and will feature a day of fun, excitement and a $10,000 prize pool.
GatewayGIVES, its corporate giving and community engagement program, will run a “25 Days of Giving” campaign that will contribute $5,000 to a worthy charity, of the employees’ choosing, in each of the communities where Gateway operates. Donations will be made to charities over a 25 day period. At the end of the campaign, GatewayGIVES will have donated a total of $125,000 to the deserving, employee-selected, charities.
