• $36 Million investment, 200 new jobs
• 300 slots, 10 live table games

August 8, 2019 – Chatham, ON –

Gateway Casinos & Entertainment Limited (“Gateway”) is excited to officially celebrate the grand opening of the Cascades Casino Chatham at 615 Richmond Street. The brand-new casino, the first Cascades in Ontario and the first “from the ground up” build for Gateway, features 300 slots and 10 table games as well as Gateway’s signature restaurant brands, MATCH Eatery & Public House and The Buffet. The new casino represents an investment of $36 million in Chatham-Kent and the creation of 200 new jobs.

Central to Gateway’s success has been the development of proprietary casino and restaurant brands.  The Cascades brand is built around the design inspiration of “Play”.  The new property had its “soft opening” on July 18 and is already a well-established “go to” local entertainment destination in the community.  Gateway has successful Cascades properties in Langley, Kamloops and Penticton, BC.

Gateway Casino’s signature restaurant brand MATCH Eatery & Public House offers the welcoming experience of a neighbourhood pub with the high energy and excitement of a sports bar, plus live entertainment. Both the MATCH and The Buffet in Chatham welcome families with children and there’s a menu to suit every taste.  The beautiful and spacious outdoor patio also offers a three-season dining experience starting through the spring, summer and fall with cooling mist dispensed on those hot summer days and outdoor firepit heaters when the temperatures start to drop.

The Buffet offers exceptional value and an ever-changing array of savory items, often highlighting cuisine from around the world with exciting desserts and a limitless fresh, soft serve ice cream fountain. The new Summit Bar, a first for Gateway, is nestled at the opposite end of the facility and spans the eastern wall of the gaming floor overlooking the live table games, a great location to relax or turn and watch the excitement.

Steve Rowbotham, General Manager of Cascades Casino Chatham welcomed Gateway’s Chief Administrative Officer Brad Bardua, Gateway’s Chief Communications & Marketing Officer Carrie Kormos, Chatham-Kent Mayor, Darrin Canniff, MPP for Chatham-Kent Leamington Rick Nicholls and Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation Chief Operating Officer Lori Sullivan to a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening of this fantastic new entertainment complex. To cap the ceremony, Sullivan presented Mayor Canniff with a cheque for $884,638 for the fiscal year 2019 from a share of the gaming revenue of Gateway Casinos Dresden.

“This is a wonderful day for Chatham-Kent and Gateway Casinos and all our guests and employees. This new attraction is testimony to what you can do when a municipal government and the private sector work together. A year ago, this was a barren, dusty vacant lot and today it’s a state-of-the-art entertainment destination that families and friends can enjoy from all around the region,” said Gateway CAO Brad Bardau.

Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff added, “Gateway Casinos has been an excellent partner to work with and has created another great destination for people around the world to visit and experience Chatham-Kent. With the investment from the casino and our ongoing partnership with OLG, the municipality has seen both an increase in jobs and in additional hosting fees that are being used towards community projects. This development is great news for Chatham-Kent and is another example of how collaboration between community and business can take advantage of everything positive the region has to offer.”

“OLG congratulates Gateway on the grand opening of its casino in Chatham-Kent, the first newly constructed gaming facility in Southwestern Ontario,” said OLG Chief Operating Officer, Lori Sullivan. The investment Gateway is making in this community and in the region will help ensure the best possible gaming experience for customers while OLG continues to deliver benefits to the Province of Ontario.”

Gateway proudly announced that the newly arrived employees to Cascades Casino Chatham have selected the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation as the charity partner for the grand opening.  On behalf of GatewayGIVES, $2 from every Tropic Thunder Pizza and $1 from every “Sons of Kent” Draught Beer sold between August 8 to September 6, 2019 will be donated to the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation.

The grand opening of the new Cascades Casino Chatham is the latest announcement by Gateway following the news last week of London City Council granting approval for a $75 million Starlight Casino at 3334 Wonderland Rd. in London, Ontario. This follows news earlier this summer that Gateway will be investing $31 million in a new casino in the City of North Bay. Gateway recently completed an $18 million renovation and rebranding of Gateway Casinos Hanover site to Playtime Hanover. Gateway also expanded the gaming floor at Gateway Casinos Innisfil as part of $9 million renovation adding 26 live table games to that location. Last year Gateway opened Starlight Casino Point Edward following a $26 million renovation to that site.

A commitment to responsible gambling is integral to how Gateway operates in Ontario including OLG’s PlaySmart program.  All Gateway properties in BC and Ontario hold RG Check accreditation. Together with OLG and other government partners, Gateway will continue to implement responsible gambling initiatives at all properties across Canada.
